General Info

If you’re cruising through Portsmouth and craving something fresh yet satisfying, Laney & Lu is one of those spots that quietly wins you over. Tucked along the bypass, this restaurant has a laid-back vibe that feels both casual and thoughtfully curated, making it easy to settle in and enjoy your time.

Walking in, the atmosphere immediately stands out. It’s calm, quiet, and unpretentious-perfect whether you’re catching up with a friend or just taking a break from a busy day. The free parking lot is a small but meaningful bonus, especially in a town where that’s not always guaranteed. And if you’re out with your dog, you’ll appreciate that they’re welcome too, which adds to the relaxed, community feel of the place.

Now, let’s talk about the menu. The highlight here is definitely the poke. It’s fresh, vibrant, and balanced in a way that feels both nourishing and indulgent. Each bowl is thoughtfully assembled, with ingredients that complement each other rather than compete. You can taste the quality in every bite, and it’s clear that care goes into how each dish is prepared. Beyond poke, the restaurant also caters well to different dietary preferences, especially with its strong vegetarian options. That makes it a reliable choice whether you’re dining solo or with a group that has mixed tastes.

What makes the experience even better is how everything flows together-from ordering to sitting down and enjoying your meal. The service style matches the setting: easygoing but attentive. You don’t feel rushed, and at the same time, everything runs smoothly.

From a reviewer’s perspective, this is the kind of place that earns repeat visits. It’s not just about one standout dish, but the overall consistency-good food, a welcoming environment, and thoughtful amenities. When browsing locations or reading through reviews, Laney & Lu often comes across as a dependable option, and after spending time here, it’s easy to see why.

The combination of fresh flavors, a calm setting, and inclusive service makes it a spot that fits effortlessly into your routine, whether you’re stopping by for a quick meal or lingering a little longer.

What customers say?

“ ACCESSIBILITY AUDIT: This space is accessible for people with mobility (dis)abilities! There is a functional accessible door opener to the right of the front doors and a small, but easily negotiable lip to enter. The counter has a lowered section, although the cashier is standing. The drinks in the fridge and gift shop items on higher shelves may require assistance to reach for anyone in a wheelchair. There are plenty of tables with removable chairs, and aisles are wide enough to maneuver. Both single-stall restrooms are gender neutral, spacious, and have grab bars and a roll under sink. One is also labeled as having a changing table. The bathroom doors are a moderate weight with a lever handle and there is no accessible door opener to open these. Growth areas could be having large print, audio, and/or braille menus as well as a detailed allergen menu. For more accessibility reviews, download the RollMobility app. The food was delicious and perfect portions, though quite expensive. The falafel was perfectly made which I find rare. Not dry at all! ”

“ First time here and stopped in for a coffee and breakfast. Pretty bright restaurant with healthy options. Had the epic egg sandwich and an almond milk latte. Both were delicious. Plenty of people sitting inside or outside on laptops or with others. Definitely will be back! ”

“ If you’re looking for a light yet satisfying lunch, the Fiesta Bowl is a solid choice. It was pretty good overall, and I appreciated the option to choose between quinoa or brown rice—I went with the brown rice, which paired nicely with the other ingredients. The avocado cilantro sauce was just okay—kind of heavy and lacking brightness. I think the bowl could really benefit from a fresh, zesty element like a lime or lemon-based dressing to balance the richness of the thicker sauces. The pickled carrots were a nice touch, and the jalapeños added a great kick. While it’s not a standout salad, it holds its own—I'd rate it a 7/10. With a few thoughtful tweaks in flavor and texture, it could be taken to the next level. Wait time was also fair not too quick but I understand it was a tad busy! It took around 15 minutes to get my salad but I didn’t mind waiting. ”
